Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong
A woman liberated or losing her morality? You decide.
Bald Mountain Theater presents a performance of Tim O’Brien’s Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, January 12 through 14 at Spice Studio in Rochester, Vermont. O’Brien, famous for his novels about the Vietnam War has created a piercing tale of an innocent’s journey to the dark side. A young soldier flies his high school sweetheart to a quiet outpost in Vietnam. The country and the war transform her into … something very different.
Performed by master reader Ethan Bowen and supported by a surround sound design, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong is an immersive experience in storytelling. Bowen jumps from character to character with his tour-de-force performance, driving the story with tempo and expression to bring this honest and engaging story to life. The sound design incorporates a wide variety of styles, from contemporary pops songs to jungle drums, to envelope the audience in the time and place of the story.
Bald Mountain Theater specializes in developing stories and fairy tales into theatrical productions that surprise and challenge our audiences to see these stories in a new light. Our touring productions of Hansel and Gretel and Puss in Boots were met with enthusiastic responses in towns across Vermont. Our home base production series Stories You Should Know; There Once Was; and Stories with Sound at Spice Studio in Rochester, allow us to dig deep into the story canon.
