BMT’s All Stars: A February Break Teen Theater Intensive

What happens when you set talented young creators and performers lose on fairy and folk tales for four days of intense collaboration? Theatrical magic.

Bald Mountain Theater presents BMT’s All Stars- a four-day creative intensive that invites teens to stage and perform their own versions of fairy and folk tales from all over the world. These students will learn about storytelling and analysis, as well as directing, acting, and songwriting, from experienced professionals. Participants are encouraged to take charge of the creative process, collaborate with one another, and incorporate their many talents into a performance that will be distinctly theirs. Expect live music, colorful fabric, physicality, and of course, tons of fun.

In 2018, we gathered together some of our favorite local young talent: Jillian Sherwin of The Sharon Academy, Donovan Piccicuto of Randolph Union High School, and Eve Huntington and Hap Riley of Rochester School to each select an Aesop’s Fable to retell and perform, and collaborate on staging folk tales from Japan and the Amur region in what is now southeastern Russia. Animals traded legs, humans transformed into bears, tricksters tricked, kindness was shown to the less fortunate, and love overcame all obstacles.
